Shaman King's Johann Faust VIII

spangledbanner.jpg

Faust I was a scholar who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for power and knowledge. In Shaman King, we meet his descendant; Faust VIII, who has inherited both his power and insanity. Faust VIII had an isolated childhood, and studied to become a doctor in order to save his only childhood companion Eliza from a deadly disease. He found a cure and she recovered, and the couple then opened a clinic and lived a happy life until Eliza was murdered. Devastated by the loss, he was driven to the verge of insanity and began to study necromancy, the same black magic Faust I had used, in order to have at least a form of her to be with. Now he competes in the Shaman King tournament in hopes of fully reviving her. He defeats Yoh in the preliminary fights (as well as both his other opponents), and later joins Yoh and Ryu on the team Funbari Onsen.

He is usually a very detailed and patient person with a scientific mind, but when it comes to Eliza, all that goes out the window. He does not tolerate interuptions while working, and tolerates even less any critisism, insults or threats directed at Eliza.

Faust is the embodiment of dedication; he has given up everything for his wife, and is willing to do anything, no matter the costs to protect and take care of her. It's this single-mindedness and selflessness that gives him his great strength in the Shaman Fight. Beyond all the mental instability, emotional suffering and somewhat gothic moods, his greatest strength comes from his pure heart; pure because he knows that he only lives to love and protect his dear Eliza.

Fausts Name Analysis from Kabalarians:

"The name of Faust indicates you are a patient, meticulous person who enjoys working in a very detailed, systematic way, in such fields as mathematics, science, mechanics, computers, or engineering. You do your best work when there is no disruption, as you do not easily adjust to interference and changes once you start a project; also you like to work step by step at your own speed. Your infinite patience would allow you to develop intricate, involved skills to perfection. However, it is not easy for others to work and live with you as you deliberate so long in arriving at conclusions and allow small details to restrict your point of view."

Eliza

Age: 26 (at death)
Birthday: June 29, 1963
Blood Type: AB

Eliza is Fausts first, only, and true love. Eliza, Faust VIII's assistant, was ill with a fatal disease since her childhood. As the only woman to care for Faust VIII he in return slaved over his studies to find a cure for her. After her recovery, they married and opened a clinic. She and Faust were very happy living together; until until their house was broken into and the burglar, armed with a gun, shot Eliza dead. Now she serves as Faust's main spirit as he works to become Shaman King and revive her. As Faust grows stronger, she becomes more lifelike; though she has no speaking roles in the anime, later in the manga she regains the ability to speak. She loves, cares for and helps Faust just as much as he loves her.

... franky

Blood Type: D2
Faust also has a dog named Franky. It's kind of dead (Faust never gets a break, does he?) but that's okay, because it serves him as a spirit and an oversoul. Franky only appears in the manga.

After Yoh destroys Eliza's legs in the preliminary battle, we don't see Faust again for a while, until we next see him in a wheelchair, ushered around by none other than Eliza. Turns out Faust gave his legs to Eliza, which he doesn't seem to mind much at all. However, once the actual tournament starts, Faust, when attacked by the IceMen, gains legs by oversoul-ing with his dog Franky.
